Due to the harsh, corrosive environment experienced by Naval Vessels, the Navy was replacing steel exhaust components every two years at a cost of $250,000.00. XCA worked in a consultative partnership, providing design and analysis during the development and value engineering during production development. The rusting steel component was replaced with a rugged composite component achieving a 10 year life cycle. Additionally an 80% weight savings and an overall savings of $1.25MM per ship were achieved.
A major Tier I defense contractor’s current vendor was unresponsive, producing poor quality and late deliveries. XCA’s process assessment and continuous improvement culture has lead to a long term relationship of high quality, 99% on time deliveries, all for a lowest total cost. Advanced Composites are a core business for XCA and with XCA’s technical expertise and production experience; a long term solution was achieved.
A major electronics system integrator came to XCA with an overweight assembly. XCA’s design and evaluation team redesigned the mounting system at a 50% weight saving while maintaining the same performance. This allowed the customer system configuration flexibility not previously available. The customer was able to pass on weight savings to the end user resulting in a more heavily up-armored vehicle to protect today’s warrior.
